Mahdi Saleh received a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, in 2021. During his Ph.D. studies, he designed and implemented a new measurement system based on capacitive sensor arrays for measuring the thickness of oil films floating on the water surface in open water environments. In addition, he developed capacitive sensors for characterizing soil moisture in agricultural fields and proposed sensing methods for measuring oil viscosity and thin oil-film thickness.
From January 2021 to April 2022, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate with the School of Engineering, University of Lincoln, U.K where he contributed to the development of long-range IoT-enabled Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for agricultural monitoring applications. Since May 2022, he has been a Research Associate with the Non-Invasive Bioelectronic Systems group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Manchester, U.K.
His current research work is in the domain of instrumentation and measurement with a special focus on developing low-power embedded measurement systems for bioelectronic wearable and implantable sensors, capacitive imaging sensors, and distributed environmental monitoring systems. Throughout his work, he gained experience in developing low-power instrumentation circuits, microcontroller-based measurement systems, firmware/software development, sensor signal processing, and machine-learning algorithms. Dr. Saleh received the First Place Award in the BLF-IFI Climate Change Student Competition from AUB’s Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs in 2018. He is a recipient of the CNRS-L/AUB Ph.D. Scholarship Award of the National Council for Scientific Research-Lebanon and AUB in 2016. He was recognized as one of the Outstanding Reviewers for IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement in 2020 and 2021.
